I absolutely adore an Engagement Shoot that really reflects a couple and their personalities- and this one of Rebecca and Dave by Mini & Me Photography does just that! In the gorgeous seaside town of Whitstable, this gorgeous shoot has everything- seaside views, the cutest little beach huts, and the most amazing marine backdrops- as well as love in spades.

Dani & Helen from Mini & Me Photography told us: “We spent a few hours with them by the beach in Whitstable, they were both super nervous about their wedding images so we suggested a e-shoot so that they would be more comfortable on their wedding day. They are so ridiculously in love though – I’m not sure they really knew we were there, they were a dream to work with , the wedding is in a few weeks and we reckon its going to be pretty blooming epic :)”

So now, let’s hand over to the bride and groom to be and hear all about them, their shoot and their awesome wedding plans! Take it away Rebecca and Dave!

How We Met

“We first met at Becca’s 18th birthday party at a (now closed gig venue in Colchester. Dave was the bassist in one of the bands playing that night and Becca knew another band member from 6th form. We were introduced, but that was that! Fast forward a few years, we had just finished university and had both joined a well-known dating website, Dave spotted Becca’s profile (not realising the 18th birthday connection) and sent her a message…. After a few weeks of texting and talking Becca suggested meeting up and we went for a date on Ipswich waterfront, conveniently gatecrashed by 3 of Dave’s best friends! We went on to the park for a walk and eventually came to the realisation of our previous connection all those years ago at the gig, from there it was a few more weeks until we were “official”.”

The Proposal

“We took a city-break to Hamburg and after availing ourselves of very many of the less than reputable Punk and Metal bars the area had to offer, ended up on the ‘Reeperbahn’ main street in the city centre, a final large whisky & coke and Dave made the announcement that he intended to marry the now love of his life. The official engagement was meant for a very romantic Valentine’s evening, however the ring-box Dave had custom-ordered failed to materialise on time and instead it was on the 15th Feb!”

“We chose our engagement shoot location because we both love the coast / seaside and waterfront areas. We live in Essex where there are plenty of spaces like this, but the photographers suggested Whitstable and we both jumped at the chance to go somewhere close to home but still a bit different. Dave had previously gone on family holidays there and had fond memories of it and Becca was really happy to go somewhere that had a range of scenery all in one place; beaches, piers / promenades, beach huts and market stalls. Plus Dave is a sucker for all things maritime! We had a wonderful time and they really are some of the best pictures of us as a couple we have ever had. The bonus bits and pieces we had in the backgrounds really made some of the shots stand out, street-art, industrial bits & pieces and at one point an acrobatic canoe!”

“Mini & Me chose us! We had gone to a wedding fair in Chelmsford and had had the same script over & over from so many suppliers and we had got to the last part of the show, they spotted our Download festival t-shirts and pulled us over for a chat. Becca realised she had seen and liked some of their shots from issues of Rock’n’Roll bride and Dave was really taken with their less than traditional approach and the way they really seemed to capture the personalities of the couples they had worked with. They are so friendly and have really put us at ease throughout the Photography process, we have a lot of shots we know we hope to get on the day and are absolutely confident they will help us make and capture some special memories. We would absolutely recommend them!”

“We are having quite a straightforward ceremony, we have written our own vows and our mums are both doing readings to add a more personal touch, which are both going to be from authors that have had impact on both of us, but we have really added our own touches to the rest of the day. It’s going to to be a Boho-Vintage, rock’n’roll party! Drinks are an important aspect, we have got a very nice single malt for all to toast with as Dave is a big fan of Scotch. Our table settings are all craft spirits bottles and to toast our Goth / Metal “heritage” as a couple we have a great selection of decorative skulls to adorn the tables. As for surprises, we are having the girls organise some unique / special shots on the day of us and our bride / grooms parties and we are both really excited to bust out some flares! Apart from that, there’s a bride’s speech, and instead of the traditional wedding breakfast we’ve gone for a tiered Afternoon Tea. We can’t wait!”
